Hi everyone, and Happy New Year!
We wanted to take a moment to reflect on the past year, 2022, and all the great things that happened for Bonita’s Kitchen. We posted 52 new recipes and videos on our channel, website, Eastlink Community TV, and Facebook page – that’s a new video every Sunday, all made right here in our kitchen. We want to thank all our viewers and team for their support, because without them none of this would be possible.
We’re now in our 9th year of Bonita’s Kitchen and have over 80,000 subscribers, with over 6 million views of all our videos. When we started Bonita’s Kitchen in June 2014, we never thought we’d still be bringing new recipes to millions of viewers all over the world.
We also had the opportunity to work with lots of people throughout the year. We did reviews on some kitchen helpers, like the cooking thermometer by ChefTemp Co. and the electric skillet by CalmDo Co. We also did interviews with SaltWire and The Telegram for some affordable recipes and seasonal meals and desserts, which was always a treat for us to share our love of traditional recipes. The Newfoundland Herald Magazine even posted a few of our recipes in their weekly magazine, and we’re grateful for their 75 wonderful years of keeping us informed.
We were lucky enough to work with Jennifer Leigh Hill on her new cookbook, Newfoundland’s Best Breakfasts and Brunch. And we’re excited to say we have seven recipes in her new cookbook 🙂
We also worked with a company called Outfit Partners and Lupine Creative to dub three of our videos in Spanish and Portuguese for YouTube.
We did a radio interview with CBC Fisheries Broadcast Paula Gale, talking about traditional meals for Christmas Eve, of course my favourite is Fish and Brewis because of the memories I have of my Dad making this meal on Christmas Eve.
And we had the chance to speak with Colleen Hiscock, owner of Java Jack’s Restaurant and Gallery in Rocky Harbour, on CBC CrossTalk about cooking turkey for Christmas Day. It was great to hear from callers and share our love of cooking and baking.
Bonita’s Kitchen is all about teaching cooking and baking, but it’s also great to be a part of different platforms to share our love of cooking and baking with our viewers. Our cookbook “A Little Taste of Home,” which we released in 2020 with Boulder Books, is still doing well. We want to thank everyone who’s bought a copy for their home – each recipe in our cookbook has a video link on our website or YouTube channel. We also gave away six copies of our cookbook for Facebook contests and special events to help with fundraisers.
So, we’ll end by thanking each and every one of you for your endless support of Bonita’s Kitchen. We appreciate your likes, shares, and comments on our videos each week. We look forward to bringing you new and affordable recipes in this new year of 2023, and we’re excited to work with even more people and media platforms to get our recipes to you and your family to enjoy.
Special thanks to all of you!
Love, Bonita, Raymond, and the team.
And it has been MY pleasure to be a sincere fan of your channel. I do enjoy the many wonderful recipes and the simple sharing of the heritage of the food of the Americas. My ancestry harkens back almost a century and a half to Poland before they emigrated to the U.S. I constantly marvel at how many of your Newfoundland-based foods are very similar to the foods I grew up enjoying. Thanks to you and Raymond for the effort I know goes into creating each of the videos we all so enjoy. Good simple foods made with common ingredients. What could be better? I wish you and yours a 2023 filled with health, happiness, peace and prosperity. We may not have it all together, but together we have it all.
Hi Randy, We so loved your message, thank you for stopping by and talking the time to share with us your reflection and thoughts of our cultural foods. We always say it’s a small world when so many things we all enjoy and remember are the same, making simple tasty homemade food, is what it’s all about. We love sharing our love of our cultural food and of food from all around the world. Our Province here in Newfoundland and Labrador were apart of the British Colony back before 1949 and then they joined The Confederation of Canada. We still make a lot of the cultural foods our elders made at that time and I guess got a taste for Newer cultural recipes and such. Thank you once again and we do have many more tasty recipes that is affordable and can be made with only a few simple ingredients we all have in our homes.
Happy New Year to you and yours and God Bless you for your lovely message.
Bonita, Raymond and the Team! 🙂
I’ve enjoyed your shows immensely and I’m looking forward to seeing what ’23 brings.
Thank you 🙂 Bonita
