Instructions
Method:
- In a medium bowl cream together butter, sugar, vanilla, milk and eggs, continue mixing everything together.
- Sift in flour, baking powder, and sea salt into mixture continue mixing until all combined.
- When the dough becomes to hard to move with the spoon use your hand or kitten aid to form into a ball, then place in the fridge for about fifteen minutes while you are getting your apples ready.
- When ready remove dough from fridge and put on the counter top with a dusting of flour. Roll out with a rolling pin or bottle, place a bowl about 6” round to cut our pastry, cut all of them out first, then on one side put 3 teaspoons of your apple mixture, fold over the other side. SEE METHOD BELOW FOR FILLING!
- Then pinch the ends together with a fork, you will need a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper, place apple flips on and spacing them a inch apart, poke fork holes in the top of apple flips, then brush with some melted butter, pre-heated oven to 350°F for 20 to 25 minutes depending on your oven or until golden brown.
- When baked remove from oven serve hot or cold with whipped cream or ice cream, on its own.
Method:
- Peel apples then cut in small pieces, place in bowl.
- Then add all spices, lemon and brown sugar, mix together.
- Then follow the top instructions for making apple flips.
BAKING TIPS:
- Putting pastry in the fridge helps harden the dough and is easier for rolling out.
- If you peel apples in advance put lemon juice over them to stop from going brown.
- You can also dust apple flips with a egg wash to brown the top more.
- If you have leftover pastry wrap in clear wrap and put in the fridge for a week and use daily, also apple filling can go in a tub with lid and keep in fridge to use making more apple flips.
