Making an homemade pastry is so easy and I have a lovely recipe for you!!!
This pastry is made with pure lard, flour, sea salt and cold water....
This is a lovely dessert and it's seasonal or anytime of the year!!!

- Pure lard - ½ cup, tender flake or of choice
- Sea salt - ½ to 1 tsp
- COLD water - ½ cup
- Recipe for Apples:
- Apples - 2 each
- Brown sugar - ¾ cup
- Cinnamon - 2 tsp
- Nutmeg - ¼ tsp, or more
- Lemon juice - ½ tsp, for apples
- Sea salt - ¼ tsp or more
- Flour - 1 tbsp
- Recipe for Glaze:
- Confectioners sugar - ½ cup
- Lemon juice - 1 tsp
- Water or milk - 2 tsp
- Brushing Pastry:
- Milk - 1 tbsp
Instructions
In a bowl add flour and sea salt, then cut in pure lard until all combined. After slowly add COLD water and mix with mixer or by hand until you form a ball.
Cover the pastry ball in clear wrap and put in the fridge for 15 minutes to cool pastry.
Then dust counter with flour and place the pastry on it and roll out. Roll it about 16” x 18” longer if you wish.
Then with a pizza cutter or knife cut 4 inches by 1½“ on both sides on a angle leaving the middle about 6” wide. Plus the top of pastry leave about 2” so you can flap it over to close opening. SEE VIDEO FOR MORE DETAILS!!!
Then peel and cut your apples in wedges, toss in a bowl with lemon juice. Then brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and sea salt.
Place one or two wedges side by side and all the ways down to the bottom of pastry. Then flap first piece of pastry down over top, then continue one 6” x 1½” piece flapping over each other to braid the pastry until you get to the bottom.
The last piece flap under pastry, see video for more details.
When done place pastry on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper, brush pastry with milk.
Then preheat your oven to 375ºf and bake this pastry for 35 to 40 minutes.
When baked remove from oven and let rest for 5 minutes, then make your glaze.
In a small bowl add confectioners sugar, lemon juice and water or milk……mix together and pour over apple pastry braid……

Homemade pastry is the best and so affordable, my recipe is for two pie pastries or one pastry braid. The cost of my homemade pastry is around $1.50 and that’s for two pie crusts or one pastry braid. Plus you made it yourself!!!
Remove from cookie tray and drizzle with homemade icing and cut into strips….
Thank you for stopping by and I hope you get to make our tasty dessert soon, if there is apple season or not this is a quick and tasty dessert everyone will love!!!
From our Kitchen to yours and on behalf of myself, RMHussey Productions and Team…..Thank you for stopping by…..Enjoy 🙂 Bonita
