Cooking the cod fish for five minutes in water, sea salt and quarter of an onion. Then flake it apart and set aside to add in with your mashed potatoes. First peel and boil your potatoes of choice in water and sea salt until fork tender, then drain and mash with one tablespoon of butter.
After let mixture come to room temperature before you start scooping the mixture out and into a deep fryer. You will need a deep fryer with oil and let heat up to 375ºf or 400ºf before adding at less five tablespoon scoops into oil and let fry until golden brown.

Ingredients
- Cod fish - 2 cups, boneless and skinless
- Mashed potato - 1 ½ cups
- Egg - 1 large, beaten
- Butter or margarine - 1 tbsp, melted
- Sea salt - 1 tsp
- Black or White Pepper - ½ tsp
- Onion - 1 tbsp, grated juice
- Flour - 1 tbsp
- Onion - ¼ wedge
- Lemon - 1 each, wedges
- Cocktail sauce - 1 cup
Instructions
Deep Fryer and Cooking Oil
Method:
First in a saucepan with water and a pinch of sea salt and ¼ of an onion, cook codfish for 5 minutes on a medium heat, remove from the saucepan and flake apart codfish in a plate, about 2 cups or more.
Peel potatoes and rinse in cold water, then put in a saucepan with water, a pinch of sea salt, boil until fork tender. When cooked, drain water off potatoes and mash with butter and pepper, then add onion juice and continue mashing.
After add flaked codfish, mix together with fork or masher until creamy, when mixture cools to room temperature, add beaten egg and flour and continue creaming together. If the mixture is soft, put it in the fridge to cool down before using.
After shaping into small balls on a tablespoon until all codfish potato mixture is used, turn the deep fryer on and heat to 350ºF to 400ºF when ready. Put four to five codfish balls in at one time and fry until golden brown. Continue doing this until all fried and drain codfish balls on a paper towel to remove extra oil.
Serve with cocktail sauce and wedges of lemon.
Bonita’s Tips:
Peel and soak potatoes in cold water will remove some starch before cooking.
Making sure all bones are removed from cod before adding to mixture, pinching the cooked cod with you two finger to remove bones.
Keeping deep fried cod fish bites in the oven on 200ºf uncovered until ready with eat.
