FIVE STAR BARS
Hi welcome to our website!
If you are looking for a tasty old fashion childhood recipe, this is it!
This recipe is pretty much only a few simple ingredients and made usually at Christmas time, baby showers and bridal showers. Sometimes I like making these if I'm expecting company and like to pull out all the stops. 🙂
You can use chocolate chips, dark chocolate or are bars, for the top layer for these delicious bars.
Add all ingredients in a large bowl and mix together, leaving out the chocolate chips they are for the final step.
Please continue on to our recipe posted below, and before you do take a look at our NEW cookbook, "A Little Taste of Home" released in October 2020! https://www.bonitaskitchen.com/cookbook
Ingredients
- Graham crumbs - 2-1/2 cups
- Sweetened Condensed Milk - 1 can, 300ml
- Butter or margarine - 1/2 cup
- Unsweetened fine coconut - 2 cups
- Vanilla extract - 1 tsp
- Sea salt - 1/2 tsp
- Semi-sweet chocolate chips - 1 bag, 300g
Instructions
In a large bowl add graham cracker crumbs, melted butter or margarine, condensed milk, seas salt, unsweetened coconut and vanilla. Toss together until all ingredients are combined and ready to use.
In a square baking pan of choice, add a piece of parchment paper to bottom and add all of the mixture. Press down in pan evenly and prepare the oven to 350ºF and after its ready put pan in oven and set the timer to 15 to 20 minutes. Depending on your oven.
When baked turn oven off, then remove pan from oven and toss chocolate chips or chucks over the top, place back in the oven for 2 minutes just to soften the chocolate, then remove from oven and spread chocolate evenly over the top. “ Or melt chocolate in microwave and pour over top” what works for you.
Set aside and let pan cool to room temperature before cutting then into squares, or size of choice.
These FIVE STAR BARS can be stored at room temperature while serving them, and kept in a container with lid for storage in fridge or freezer.
Freeze them for longer storage and to keep then fresh. Enjoy
