This is the same as a baked bean recipe but slow cooked to give you more time with your family!!!
One bag about 454g package into a bowl of cold water, soak it over night to loosen the beans and hydrate the beans. The next day when ready to cook them, remove all water and loss then into your slow cooker....
After bacon is lightly fried add it to your slow cooker, along with all the ingredient's and boil hot water about 5 cups!!!

Ingredients
- White Pea beans - 1 bag - 454g or more, plus water to soak them.
- Onion - 2 medium, peeled and chopped
- Apple cider vinegar - 2 tsp
- Mustard - 2 tsp, of choice
- Ketchup - ½ cup
- Sea salt - 1 tsp
- Onion powder - 1 tsp
- Hot water - 5 cups
- Brown sugar - ¼ cup
- Molasses - ½ cup
- Black or white pepper - 1 tsp
- Fat pork or bacon - ½ pack, cut in pieces
- Worcestershire sauce - 1 tbsp
Instructions
In large bowl, add uncooked one bag of white pea beans, then top with cold water cover add ½ tsp sea salt, leave soaking overnight on counter top.
When ready to start making the slow cooked beans, you will need a slow cooker with lid, they can be baked as well.
Start with chopping your onions and add to the bottom of slow cooker with lid. “ you can fry them first if you like the caramelization”.
Next drain all water off beans and add to slow cooker, then top with 5 cups cold water and all the seasonings and ingredients, except your pork or bacon this you can fry first for a few minutes to release the oil..…
Then pour pork or bacon and oil over beans and other ingredients, stir in.
Put the lid on, then slow cook on low for 4 to 6 hours, check half way through the cooking time, add more water if needed stir, then cover and continue cooking.
Bonita’s Tips:

Fry onions or fat pork to give the baked beans a caramelization taste.
roasted red peppers an excellent alternative for replacing ketchup in this recipe. Open up a jar or roast them yourself and puree in the food processor. They will add a pop of colour and flavour and a extra tbsp of brown sugar.

This recipe today will speed up or slow down your cooking time, what I mean about that. If you cook the beans in your slow cooker you can leave it and go on to work. But if you cook it in the oven you will have to stay home.
When your slow cooked beans are ready keep them in your slow cooker on warm until you are ready to serve them. Plus the beans you don’t eat put in prepared mason jars and let them seal on the counter and store in your fridge. They will stay good for a couple of months. Date and label them before you store them in the fridge…..

In the ingredients list for the slow cooked baked beans it states 5 cups of hot water but in the instructions it states to add 5 cups of cold water. I am making this recipe tomorrow, soaking the beans overnight and cannot wait till it is all done .

That’s ok to use hot or cold but hot will speed up the starting time for the bean. I will fix that to say hot or cold…. 🙂
