Ingredients
- Blueberries - 4 Cups fresh or frozen
- Lemon - 2 Tsp
- Lemon Zest - Few grates
- White Sugar - 3 Cups or less
- Pectin ( Certo ) - 2 Tsp ( optional )
Instructions
1- In a medium saucepan, add blueberries, lemon juice and zest, let berries start to boil on a low heat, then add sugar stir until all dissolved.
2- Start mashing your blueberries to help brake them down. Continue cooking on a medium heat until your berries start to condense and thicken.
3- Depending on how thick you like your jam, you can add certo or pectin this is optional.
4- Pre soak your mason jars and lids in hot water for about 10 minutes, remove from water let drip dry on a cloth.
5- When your jam have cooked for about half hour remove from heat and start scooping hot jam into mason jars, clean tops of mason jars to remove any blueberries and place lids and caps on each one then tighten.
6- Date and label each bottle, Let cool for 6 hours or over night at room temperature then store in a cool place or in your fridge, when you are ready to open your mason jars then keep in your refrigerator until all used.
Please Note:
This mixture makes 3 cups of jam or 4 small mason jars, if you would only like to have the jelly part of your jam just strain your mixture through a strainer pressing down on your berries to get all the juice. Then pour in each mason jar and continue the steps I have above.
Blueberry Jam is one of my favourite jams, I love making this jam in season so I don’t have to make them while they are frozen. If you decide to make your jam with frozen berries let them thaw first before starting the boiling process. Back to the reason why freshly picked or store bought fresh blueberries are the best for making jam there natural juice’s have so much flavour and it is so tasty when cooked.
We all know that blueberries are very good for you so eating them fresh over your cereal, yogurt or baked in muffins, pancakes or steamed puddings.
No matter how you eat them or what you make out of them they are good for you.
Back to our blueberry jam, I can try to sell you on all the reasons why you should make your own jams. But you know that anything you make yourself is always better then what you buy in the grocery stores, you can control the amount of ingredients that goes into your recipe.

Hi I’ve mad crab apple jelly before and my kids love it. This is the first year I’m venturing out to different jams and jellies. So far I’ve made Strawberry jam, and now blueberry jam and of course crab apple jelly. I’m going to making a lot of that as I have two trees full of the suckers.
Hi Sharlene: Thank you so much for your lovely message and for stopping by, I’m so glad you are going to extend your jam making. Its so easy for us to go buy jams and jellies there is no fun in that, but making your own is amazing and they make great gifts if you wish. I don’t have a apple trees in our garden but one of our neighbours got one and she lets me pick them every year. We have blackberries, and blueberries in our back yard thats wild, and my sister got raspberry bushes and I pick them every year to make some jam. 🙂 Have a lovely day and check out all of our jams and jellies here on our website. 🙂 Bonita
