Hi, Bonita, Q.I was wondering if it’s ok to add fried onions to the fish cakes???
Hi Jan: Thank you for your message and yes it is totally ok to fry the onions first and then add them. This way it will be totally cooked and caramelized and it will be delicious for sure. Enjoy Bonita
I would like to know how you make your breadcrumbs. I heard you say stale bread, grated. What bread? Sliced store bought or whole loaf? grate it on a box grater? I have only made breadcrumbs from toasted bread and then just ripped it into small pieces but I prefer the Newfoundland kind but not sure how to go about it
Hi Doreen: Thank you so much for your message and for visiting our website, the breadcrumbs I use is from a loaf of bread or sliced bread thats three or four days old and grated or you can put between your hands and crumble it yourself or just use the store bought toasted crumbles what ever works for you. This is a lovely recipe and so tasty, enjoy I hope this answers your question. 🙂 Bonita
Did you use mock crab or genuine crab?
Hi Eric: Thank you for your message and for visiting our channel, you can use whatever you can find. but the best would be real crab meat. I used mock crab in this video because not in season and of course not available at that time. We make these little crab cakes all the time and they are delicious. Enjoy Bonita

Can you cut down on the amount of buffalo sauce in the recipe? Will it make it less spicy? My kids wouldn’t eat it the first time because it was too spicy.
Oh yes use only what you like and if you don’t like it don’t use it. But it is a lovely sauce if you like to make a small amount. Thank you for your message. 🙂 Bonita
