- Butter or margarine - 2 tbsp
- Black or White Pepper - ½ tsp
- Sea salt - ½ tsp
- Broth - ½ cup
- Evaporated milk - ½ cup
- Garlic - 1 clove, pressed or grated
- Mixed veggies - 1 cup
- Onion - 1 medium, peeled and chopped
- PASTRY
- Flour - 2 cups
- Butter or margarine - ½ cup
- Cold water - ½ cup
- Sea salt - ½ tsp
Instructions
Method:
In a large saucepan add butter, let melt, add chopped onion and fry until part cooked, then add flour mix together until it’s combined then add broth, sea salt, pepper, garlic and milk. Continue mixing until sauce is starting to thicken. Add chopped cooked turkey or chicken and fold together until coated, follow the method below to make. Top with chopped green onion.
Pastry
Recipe:
2 cup white or wheat flour ½ cup Cold Butter
½ tsp salt ½ cup cold water
Method for pastry:
Mix flour, butter ( chop in pieces) and salt together in a bowl mix with your hand or food processor, when mixed add water mix until it shapes into a ball then remove from bowl/mixer.
Put a piece of parchment paper on the counter and sprinkle with flour then cut the ball into 6 pieces, then put your pastry ball on top of the parchment paper then roll out about 6 inches long.
Double the recipe if you like to make more than 6 pastries and if you are using salted butter, don't add salt.
Method to Turkey Pasties:
After the pastry is rolled out, add a scoop of turkey filling to one side of the pastry and fold over the mixture and pinch the pastry together.
Continue doing this until all is made and place on a cookie sheet with a piece of parchment paper, then preheat your oven to 375ºF and set the timer to 40 minutes or less depending on your oven.
Then grease the tops of the pastries and put in a preheated oven.
After baking, remove from the oven and serve with whatever side dish or top with gravy. Also let cool and wrap for school or work lunches, rewarm in the microwave or eat cold.
Bonita’s Tips:
Having all ingredients measured and ready to use, will help.
Making the pastry before hand and letting it cold in the fridge will help cool the butter and flaky pastry.
