You need uncooked lean ground beef, chicken, turkey or pork...I'm going to say whatever you enjoy eating more.

I call the cabbage a light green cooking cabbage, we would use this cabbage when making a JIGGS DINNER in PASTRIES on Sunday's or special occasions.

I like to soak the cabbage in cold water for about 15 minutes or so. This expands the cabbage and of course cleans it too. Drain the water from cabbage after and put into a large roaster or baking pan of choice.

Rice, chopped onion, tomatoes, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes plus chopped cabbages and sea salt, pepper and onion powder in your ingredients.

Ingredients
- Cabbage - 6 to 8 cups, chopped
- Rice - 1 cup, uncooked
- Onion - 1 diced
- Tomatoes - 2 large, chopped
- Tomato sauce - 1 can
- Diced tomatoes - 1 large can
- Onion Powder - 1 tsp
- Sea salt - 1 tsp
- Pepper - 1 tsp, black or white
- Lean ground beef - 1 or 2 pounds
- Water or broth - 1 or 2 cups
- Olive oil - 1 tbsp
Instructions
Method:
First prepare all ingredients, get them ready to add to the roaster with lid.
Drizzle a little olive oil in the bottom of the roaster. Then layer your cabbage at the bottom of the roaster, seasoning between each layer, then top with pieces of uncooked ground beef, chicken, turkey or pork. ( ONLY ONE TYPE )
After top with uncooked rice, chopped onion, half a can of diced tomatoes. Then half of the tomato sauce, top with freshly chopped tomato.
Then use the other half of the tomato sauce and diced tomatoes. Use the water or broth to rinse out the cans and pour over everything.
Cover with lid and put in a preheat oven of 375ºf and bake between 60 to 90 minutes, depending on your oven……
Check between and add more water or broth if needed.
When cooked serve HOT and with fresh bread or rolls, plus a nice side salad.
Bonita’s Tips:
Use your favourite rice, I like using white long grain or basmati rice. Sometimes Jasmine rice they are my favourite.
Use a baking dish with lid if you don’t own a roaster.
This recipe can be cooked in a slow cooker.
Use the green cooking cabbage for this recipe, just chop thin slices of the cabbage off the cabbage.
You can soak the chopped cabbage in water for 30 minutes to hydrate the cabbage.
